Dora the Explorer, has a brand new backpack from her parents. You'll help her fill it with books to return to the library and it's your job to help her get there. As you make your way through Dora's world, you'll meet some of her friends - Swiper the fox, who is notorious for swiping things and must be told firmly three times not to; Boots, Dora's monkey sidekick; Isa the iguana, who needs help finding a tool; Benny the bull and his fabulous balloon - you'll guide him to pick up some more friends; and others. As you complete each task along the way, the Fiesta Trio - a musical bug, frog, and snail - dances onto the screen bringing you a virtual sticker for your book.

Gameplay is through the mouse - point and click. At any time you can click on the Map character to find out where you are, and the level icon to adjust the difficulty. You also have a back arrow, to take you back a screen or to the sign-in page.

When you do go back to your sign-in page, you can click on your sticker book, choose a background, and decorate it with the stickers you've earned. When you've arranged your picture to your liking, print it!

Computing with Kids by Jinny Gudmundsen
"Making her computer debut with this software title, Dora embarks on an adventure to return books to the public library. Preschoolers can choose to play the game as a story in the “Backpack Adventure Mode” or they can jump directly into the activities in “Freeplay Map Mode.” In either mode, the seven activities have three levels of difficulty, and kids earn stickers for printable art activities."
"This software was a big hit with our preschool testers. Its learning exercises are simple and provide a lot of mouse practice. It cocoons little ones with help when they are confused. Swiper, the troublesome fox in the TV show, periodically sneaks up and must be banished by clicking. In addition, the program entices kids to explore (and thus use the mouse more) by hiding tons of clickable animations at each location."

When you first enter this game you are taken to a series of pages for signing in and decorating the sticker book that you can access after you earn some stickers. You are given the option to play the game fully (Backpack Adventure Mode), or to enter the Map Mode and play the mini-games in whatever order you like. The mini-games are designed to exercise some early-childhood skills; color recognition, problem solving, shape recognition, pattern completion, number recognition, classification, mousing skills.

About Dora:
The series centers around Dora, a seven-year-old Latina girl, with a love of embarking on quests related to an activity that she wants to partake of or a place that she wants to go to, accompanied by her talking purple backpack and anthropomorphic monkey companion named Boots (named for his beloved pair of red boots). Each episode is based around a series of cyclical events that occur along the way during Dora's travels, along with obstacles that she and Boots are forced to overcome or puzzles that they have to solve (with "assistance" from the viewing audience) relating to riddles, the Spanish language, or counting. Common rituals may involve Dora's encounters with Swiper, a bipedal, anthropomorphic masked thieving fox whose theft of the possessions of others must be prevented through fourth wall-breaking interaction with the viewer. To stop Swiper, Dora must say "Swiper no swiping" three times.

However, on occasions where Swiper steals the belongings of other people, the viewer is presented with the challenge of helping Boots and Dora locate the stolen items. Another obstacle involves encounters with another one of the program's antagonists; the "Grumpy Old Troll" dwelling beneath a bridge that Dora and Boots must cross, who challenges them with a riddle before permitting them the past that needs to be solved with the viewer's help. Known for the constant breaking of the fourth-wall depicted in every episode, the audience is usually presented to two primary landmarks that must be passed before Dora can reach her destination, normally being challenged with games or puzzles along the way. The episode always ends with Dora successfully reaching the locale, singing the "We Did It!" song with Boots in triumph.
