Double Dragon 3: The Arcade Game - SEGA Mega Drive - Attract & Playthrough as Billy Lee [4K60]
Full gameplay longplay, playthrough, walkthrough, guide & trueplay of the Mega Drive / Genesis / Megadrive version of Double Dragon 3: The Arcade Game on real hardware. Oddly enough only the packaging uses "The Arcade Game" subtitle, in-game it uses it's original name of Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone.
Let's not beat around the bush Double Dragon 3 was a terrible arcade game that was out classed by many of it's peers released around the same time or early. Final Fight and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games, just blow this out of the water from the get go.
An early example of microtransaction in the arcade, most arcade gamers turned their noses up at the included shop which cost real world cash to purchase items from. while not the earliest game to include it Technōs do seem to have been the pioneers of it, some of their games from the era including the accursed system.
Sadly this Mega Drive version is based on the western arcade release and not the improved Japanese update that removed the shop. Software Creations had a rather tough task to port this shocker of the arcade game. Fair to say you can't fix what is broke, in fact this home port is worse than the arcade version as the game is missing the stun animation. It does let you pick your starting character in the options and you can set it to 25 credits and trust us, you are going to need them to finish this game. As this version is far harder than the original arcade release and also only supports two players not the arcade's three.
Hit detection is hit and miss at the best of times in this version, it hugely effects the gameplay as you often just can't land a blow. Graphics are pretty decent and stay close to the arcade version, some bits slightly improve over the arcade. Such as the final boss background and the mummy sprites from the fifth level. The music is by far the high point in this port, which isn't saying much. It ends up being one of those so bad it's good titles, but it's no Streets of Rage or Golden Axe.
The weakest of the three Double Dragon arcade ports on Mega Drive, while graphically it looks better than the port of the second game it plays the worst. With the second game playing by far the best, ironically this and the unlicensed port of the first game never got a Japanese release. Where as the second game only got a Japanese release.
Couple of hints you have to buy the more advance moves, but you lose them when you die. Flying weapons only do 5 damage, compared to the 50 the later enemies do with a normal punch.
