A Scholarly Intersections talk part of a regular series we call Playing with the Past, featuring Dr. Ashlee Bird (Western Abenaki) a Native American game designer, PhD in Native American Studies, and the Moreau Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Bird presents research from her dissertation and most recent scholarship that addresses representations of Native Americans in video games and analyzes specific colonial methodologies being replicated within game spaces in order to replace them with decolonial methods of game design that focus on what she calls “synthetic Indigenous identity,” oriented around promoting Indigenous futures.
