"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is a side-scrolling action game, developed by Advance Communication and published by Toho (JP) and Bandai (NA) in 1988. Loosely inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 novella "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde," the game consists of six levels, where gameplay shifts between controlling Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The game's narrative features Dr. Jekyll on his way to his imminent wedding to Miss Millicent. Players alternate between the two characters based on their actions, either evading threats as Dr. Jekyll or causing damage as Mr. Hyde. The game's outcome hinges on whether Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde arrives at the church first. If Hyde surpasses Jekyll's progress, he meets a fatal end by lightning strike, emphasizing the challenge of balancing progression as both characters.

As Dr. Jekyll progresses towards the church, obstacles such as townspeople and animals impede his path, gradually escalating his frustration. When his stress meter maxes out, Dr. Jekyll transforms into Mr. Hyde. The gameplay shifts to a demonic realm where Hyde combats monsters with a "psycho wave" attack. Dispatching these foes diminishes Hyde's anger until he reverts to Jekyll.

Overall, "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is a mixed bag. The controls are stiff, and the difficulty is very high. But the difficulty can be overcome with practice, learning enemy patterns and timing. The idea of alternating between two characters makes the gameplay unique, and requires strategic gameplay to get the good ending where Mr. Hyde arrives at the church first.
