Dragon Age: Inquisition - Dragon Hunter: Greater Mistral (Nightmare/Trials)
This the full party version of my fight against the Greater Mistral, the Emerald Graves’ High Dragon.
Previously I uploaded two solo fights of this fight to both my Tempest Rogue archer ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqXqXBfegeA ) and Dual Wielding ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRBte-XcsOQ ) builds.
Since I like the idea of having a party for story reasons(even though the builds I’m using allow me to solo the game) I decided to upload this video but to not make things repetitive, this time I’ll focus on the strategy regarding the actual Dragon fight.
The Greater Mistral breathes ice thus she deals cold damage, possess a greater cold resistance and she is vulnerable to fire.
Cold Resistance tonics and anything that deal fire damage will surely facilitate the fight.
However I want to be frank: I believe a solid build capable of deal with most, if not every, situations will help you much more than spending time equipping enemy-specific potions and other stuff.
My videos clearly prove it. I never use potion and I play on Nightmare with all the combat Trials on and I managed to defeat this High Dragon without problems.
I’ll keep saying it over and over again lol: a solid build and the knowledge of how to actually play it are much more important than specific potions or consumables you can bring to a fight.
Of course they are a viable and valid option but trust me; once you can master an effective build you like to play you will gladly spend your in-game time doing other things than crafting potions.
If you want you can check the links above for the builds I’m using with my Tempest Rogue. I didn’t show the build in this video because I felt like making a sort of copy of my previous one.
Anyway back of the Greater Mistral tactics.
She will fight mostly on the ground and will generate a full guard bar. They faster you deplete her health bar the less frequently she will generate full guard.
During the battle she will take flight in few selected occasions, each time a 25% of her health is depleted. Once more if you inflict a lot of damage quickly you will reduce the number of times she takes flight.
During the flight she will circle around, throwing an “ice ball” at you (use Evade, Fade Step or Combat Roll to dodge it) that will Chill hit targets.
She will then land knocking you off your feet if you are within range (she will most likely land in range so be prepared to suffer that hit).
Like any other High Dragons she will attack the closest party members. The attacks are “signaled” by rising the leg closest to her chosen target. If you are in the area you can avoid the hit with your class’ specific dodge.
All dragons also tend to strike targets on their rear with a area of effect tail attack that can be avoided as above.
When she uses her “Vortex attack” rush into melee range to take no damage.
Don’t try to hide behind obstacles (the Vortex will destroy cover) and don’t try to hold the line in the open field: you will suffer more damage than your potion can heal (Even if you are not playing with Trials).
The best tactic is to reach melee range quickly: the vortex won’t inflict you any damage while you can keep damaging her.
I think I covered the most essential parts of the strategy. If you have any question or need few more tips and tricks, feel free to ask: that’s why I’m here :)
Thanks for watching :)
