Previously, Davilas completed Chapter 2: Rimuldar. Now, he will get started on the next chapter.

After resuming, Davilas begins Chapter 3: Kol & Galenholm (time 0:11). A scene introduces us to Kol & Galenholm, the Bleak and Burning Badlands. This chapter starts out rough and gets rougher. As Davilas materializes in the Kol region, Rubiss explains the situation in this benighted realm.

Davilas gains control at the starting point east of the base (time 1:33). His starting items are the Banner of Hope and a Medicinal Herb. I gather the herb is the parting gift from Elle. His starting equipment is Wayfarer's Clothes, a Giant Mallet, and an Oaken Club. The music is the initial overworld music from Dragon Quest II.

Around the starting spot, he can get various goodies, including Sandgrass, Broken Branches, and a Bonfire. Davilas takes out some Brownies and a Hammerhood for Fur for later. He also gathers some Ivy to make Rope.

Note that the environs of Kol are fairly lacking in the food department. Make it a priority to build a Cookfire ASAP.

At the base, Davilas finds 'A Passage to Tantegel: Volume III' in the southwest room (time 5:09).

Davilas plants the Banner of Hope in its slot in the middle of the base (time 7:04). Rubiss speaks more about the region's woes. The nighttime large town music from Dragon Quest III is the theme for the Kol base.

The first resident arrives (time 8:13). This guy has had a hard time of it. He introduces himself as Glutimus.

Davilas fixes up the eastern structure, which houses a Miner's Refiner. When it is enclosed and a chest is added, it becomes a Miner's Refinery. Davilas also sections off the eastern portion of the building and adds a Cookfire to make a Crude Kitchen. The kitchen will also serve as a temporary bedroom.

When the work is done, Davilas speaks to Glutimus for his first quest (time 12:28). Glutimus asks Davilas to fix up the baths in the northwest corner of the base. Davilas must clear the mud out of the bath and fix up the baths.

In the northwest room, Davilas works to repair the bath. He clears the Earth blocks out of the pool. He leaves the Water Crystal in the pool. Then, he uses Earth blocks to fill in the holes in the wall. This results in Public Baths. This type of room requires 12 blocks of hot water and a light source.

Davilas reports to Glutimus (time 15:44). Glutimus rewards him with 3 Broken Branches. Quest complete!

Then, Davilas speaks to Glutimus for his next quest (time 16:46). Glutimus asks Davilas to improve the baths with two Washtubs and three Towel Rails. Davilas learns how to make a Towel Rail.

Each Washtub requires 2 Broken Branches and 1 Cord. Making a batch of 10 Cords requires 3 Ivies. Each Towel Rail requires 1 Fur and 1 Broken Branch. This is why Davilas farmed for Fur and Ivy earlier. After making the Washtubs and Towel Rails, Davilas installs them in the Public Baths. This upgrades the room to the Kol Public Baths, which enables residents to change into new clothes.

Davilas reports to Glutimus (time 21:44). Glutimus explains the current situation in Kol. He rewards Davilas with 5 White Petals. Quest complete!

Unfortunately, the first skirmish pops up very early. To prepare, Davilas makes some Healing Cream at the Miner's Refiner. He also builds a Bucket and a Stone Sword.

When he is ready, Davilas speaks to Glutimus for the first skirmish (time 24:31). After the conversation, Davilas faces one phase of monsters. Unfortunately, Glutimus will not help out in battle. He first has to face four Brownies. The leader of the enemy troop is a Knight Errant, which can be brutal at this stage. Try to lure it into charging against an obstacles so that you can stun it and get in a few good blows.

In the end, Davilas finishes off the monsters (time 26:38). He earns a Seed of Life. Quest complete!

Next time, Davilas will continue helping Glutimus and improving the base.
