Dragon Quest IX Commentary #005, Fall from Grace; Love Triangle in Angel Falls
This is video #005 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. This video contains commentary. To view the non-commentary version, click here: http://youtu.be/BsEvqQKAwAU
Beginning his new post as primary Guardian of Angel Falls, Heorot has collected three pieces of Benevolessence. He now needs to present the Benevolessence to Yggdrasil.
Along the way, he talks with Columba in the L2 library (time index 0:57). She mentions a name that seems trivial now but will become relevant much later: Corvus.
Climbing the Observatory to Yggdrasil, Heorot finds his superiors both there (time index 3:04). It seems a momentous occasion is in the offing. Heorot has but to offer up his Benevolessence (time index 4:35). This triggers the amazing introductory scene. What has caused this tragedy?
At the end of the introductory scene, we find Heorot in Angel Falls, but he now seems to be a mortal (time index 7:32). Ivor seems jealous of the attention Heorot has been getting from Erinn since he fell from the Observatory. Of course, no one knows he's a fallen Celestrian.
After the scene, Heorot is free to roam around Angel Falls (time index 11:05). He is now a Minstrel, a versatile vocation sort of like the Final Fantasy Red Mage. He can now chat with people directly and break barrels and pots around town. From what he learns, it sounds like things have not been too rosy since the disaster. The attack on the Observatory resulted in earthquakes that have caused trouble all over. Some damage is evident in Angel Falls.
As a reminder, the items from barrels, pots, wardrobes, and blue treasure chests are random. A lady in the item shop points this out. Speaking of the item shop, it sells some basic equipment that Heorot should eventually pick up, such as the Soldier's Sword, the Bandana, and the Leather Shield. For now, he picks up a Leather Shield, Cotton Gloves, and a nice blue Bandana to protect his spiky hair.
The nun outside the church mentions how miraculous it is that Heorot survived his fall. Well, Heorot isn't exactly like the rest of us, is he?
The inhabitant of the house south of the church has information about Erinn's late father, Edwinn.
Upstairs in Ivor and Litlun's house, Ivor's little sister wants to see some Minstrel trick (time index 23:13). Unfortunately, he doesn't know the tricks that she wants to see yet. The grandfather, also upstairs, speaks of the stylus, but my personal preference is for the direction pad.
In the main room downstairs, Heorot will walk in on an argument between Mayor Litlun and Ivor (time index 24:24). Ivor isn't exactly burning with ambition, is he? He doesn't seem to want Erinn to know that his dad has been scolding him.
When Heorot returns to Erinn's house after exploring, he can talk to Erinn to eat and then go to sleep (time index 26:23). The next morning, Erinn announces that Heorot has a visitor.
Downstairs, Heorot has a chat with his visitor, Ivor (time index 28:01). Apparently, the pass east of town has been blocked off by a landslide, so Ivor wants to clear it. He wants Heorot's help dealing with the dangerous monsters. Sounds like a good job for the village Guardian. Sure, Heorot will help out. So, Ivor joins up as a temporary party member.
Before venturing out, it may be a good idea to save at the church.
Thanks for watching!
