Dragon Quest IX Commentary #098, Hope Springs: Serena's Story; Level 15 Quests in Wormwood
This is video #098 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. This video contains commentary. To view the non-commentary version, click here: http://youtu.be/bSBTWT_FARA
After exploring Eastern Wormwood, the party arrives at Hope Springs. To find Wallace, they must push in through the cave entrance in the south (time 0:30).
Within the cave, there is a red chest containing a Lucida Shard (time 0:51). They also find Wallace! He sort of explains why the village is so unfriendly to outsiders. He may be able to help out, so he heads back to Wormwood Creek.
When the party leaves the cave, they run into the ghostly girl again (time 3:07). We previously saw her at the Starflight's landing site between Angel Falls and Stornway and on the bridge in Dourbridge. She seems to be in a more talkative mood this time. Before she will say more, however, she wants the party to retrieve something she left in Wormwood Creek.
Back in Backwater Creek, the party examines the crumbled Guardian statue tucked away near the weapons shop (time 5:23). Nothing here, but Wallace pops up and raises a good point. By the way, is there some reason he's not supposed to address his uncle as "uncle"? The mayor seems to be something of a petty tyrant to me.
The statue's original location was in the church to the northeast of the priest, where a stone monument is now (time 9:18). Investigating further, they find a Serene Necklace at the base of the monument. What would have driven these people to uproot their Guardian statue?
Armed with the necklace, they head back to Hope Springs and talk with Serena again (time 11:19). The necklace has quite interesting properties, as it turns out. This initiates a fairly lengthy flashback scene. This turns out to be critical to the game's main storyline.
In return for the necklace, Serena will help open the way to the next dungeon, the Bowhole.
Before continuing with the storyline, the party can accept the Warrior and Priest class quests in Wormwood Creek. Strange place for class quests, but whatever. So, at Alltrades Abbey, they make Heorot a Warrior temporarily (time 21:10).
Then, in Wormwood Creek, they accept the class quests. A farmer named Kevo by the southwest fence hands out the Level 15 Warrior task, Quest 091: Critical Appraisal (time 22:16). To carry out this quest, the party must enrage two monsters and then finish them off with normal critical hits. Thunder Thrust and Hatchet Man will not count here, but maxing out weapon skills does help by increasing the critical hit rate.
Down the nearby well, the party will find a strange old hermit (time 23:59). He offers the Level 15 Priest task, Quest 093: Eggclesiastics. To carry out this quest, all that is necessary is to defend against attacks thirty times. Easy peasy.
Before signing off, the party returns to Abbot Jack so that Heorot can resume his role as a Paladin.
Thanks for watching!
