Previously, the party explored the depths of the Fungeon and acquired all its treasures. Now, they will face the super-boss, Nokturnus. They can get the credit roll again by defeating Nokturnus in under 20 rounds, which is why I did so much grinding up until now.
At Alltrades Abbey, the party changes to their maxed vocations (time 0:32). Heorot is a Rank 7 Dragon, which is pretty good. Carver changes to Rank 8 Dragon. The Dragon vocation offers good strength and phenomenal HP. Nevan, Milly, Ashlynn, and Healie change to Rank 8 Sage, mainly for the MP reserves. If any of them had Hero mastered, I would choose that instead. Amos goes with Rank 8 Gladiator. He, too, would probably benefit from the Dragon vocation. Terry changes to Rank 8 Armamentalist.
Also, to avoid monster encounters in the Fungeon, Amos equips the Gospel Ring. The abbot at Alltrades Abbey gives the party this when all vocations are at Rank 5 across the party. Any given vocation only has to be at Rank 5 on one character.
When the party is ready, they Zoom to Reaper's Peak (time 4:31). Then, they go through the second part of the Fungeon.
Before long, they are back at the ceremonial altar (time 5:53). Among the preparations, Milly should have the Duplic Hat and the Meteorite Bracer. She needs to be able to go first and double-cast Multiheal for the coming fight.
When the party is ready, they approach the altar (time 6:38). When they summon the evil presence, Nokturnus appears.
Then, it is boss time against Nokturnus (time 7:27). Nokturnus has an array of nasty attacks. He has hit-all attacks like C-c-cold Breath, Pearly Gates, Kazap, and a very damaging shout. He has a glance that puts one party member to sleep, which is very irritating. Naturally, he has Disruptive Wave. He also has Oomph, as well, which makes his already powerful attacks truly absurd. His physical abilities include Falcon Slash and a random three-hit attack. He often gets two moves in a round, sometimes three.
Milly as a mastered Sage with the Duplic Hat and the Meteorite Bracer is an excellent choice. Her dual-casted Multiheals, for the price of one, will improve the party's survivability a great deal. For complete healing in a pinch, be sure to bring along Healie or Curie with Omniheal. Insulatle would be a good choice if Nokturnus did not have Disruptive Wave. Oomph is still a good choice for party members who rely on physical attacks. Ashlynn as a Sage with max MP will wreck him with Magic Burst; too bad Magic Burst won't get dual-cast with the Duplic Hat equipped. Another Magic Burst from Nevan as a Sage was quite helpful, too. For consistent damage, Gigaslash is probably the best ability, though C-c-cold Breath is an excellent back-up plan.
A scene occurs after the battle (time 18:41). This is one of those irritating bonus bosses that counts the number of turns you take to beat him. That's not something I care for, personally. If you defeat him in under 20 rounds, Nokturnus will say that he has been utterly defeated. He will serve the party by combatting Mortamor.
The next scene occurs in Mortamor's inner sanctum (time 19:05). An entertaining battle will ensue, and Nokturnus will wipe the floor with Mortamor in all three of his forms. Of course, by this point, the party could probably wipe the floor with him, too.
Another scene occurs after Mortamor's humiliating defeat (time 24:07). Mortamor blows up. His job done, Nokturnus takes his leave. Then, as before, the Dread Realm will begin to fall apart. After some telepathic communication with Isaac and Benjamin, Peggy Sue will help the party escape the Dread Realm.
Next time, the party will relive the victory tour.
Thanks for watching!
