Previously, the party finished up their monster list in the Fortress of Fear. They also did some equipment upgrades. Now, it is finally time to take on the Lord of Shadows.

After resuming, the party flies to the Fortress of Fear. They use a Dragooner's dragon to fly upstairs to the fourth floor. From there, they run north through the Tower of Terror.

Eventually, they find the teleportal leading to Mordegon's lair, the Palace of Malice. A scene takes place when they enter the Seat of Shadows. Mordegon issues the usual villainous bluster.

Then, it is time to fight the first phase of the Lord of Shadows. He is pretty tough in super-strong monster mode. His parry rate is insane. He has powerful group and single-target attacks at his disposal. "A Cut Above", a multistrike attack, is especially nasty. Unlike Jasper, the Lord of Shadows does not seem to blast Disruptive Wave at every opportunity, so buffing is not a bad idea. He can use many of the same orb abilities his Spectral Sentinels had. One such ability is creating a doppelganger, the Shadow of Shadows, which can cast Kabuff and Oomphle. It is best to take out the Shadow of Shadows as quickly as possible. The red mist is especially dangerous. The Luminary's Omniheal spell is highly desirable for this battle. Be sure to also have Sage's Elixirs and Yggdrasil Leaves, but don't waste them all just yet.

A scene takes place after the first phase. Consistent with DQ final bosses, Mordegon transforms to a terrifying final form. He has two skeletal forms, the Lord of Shadows and Mordragon. First, Mordragon will come into close range. It has fire breath and Kafrizz, as well as an eerie eye glow that lowers the party's magic resistance. It also has Disruptive Wave. Then, the Lord of Shadows will come into close range. His attacks include but are not limited to the spells Kacrack, Kaboom, and Kazam. He has Lightning Storm, which can lower lightning resistance and inflict paralysis. Naturally, he also has strong physical attacks. Expect Disruptive Wave, as well.

They are most dangerous when both parts come into range. Note that Mordragon can revive the Lord of Shadows with Kazing. It also has the annoying habit of chewing on an ally for a turn. When it spits them out, they will be envenomated and dazed. For these reasons, it is best to take Mordragon out first. Also, look out for the Lord of Shadows to pep up himself and Mordragon. Dispel one of them with Wyrm Whip or Rake 'n' Break before they can use a pep power. Once Mordragon is down, the Lord of Shadows by himself is pathetic, especially compared to the first form.

Finally, the party takes down the Lord of Shadows and Mordragon. Davilas acquires the Sword of Shadows. The "final" scenes begin to play and will continue into the credits. The credit sequence is reminiscent of the one from Dragon Quest IV. However, YouTube's draconian copyright blocking may not allow me to show everything. If that is the case, I will also upload this video to Twitch and provide a link to it in the comments.

After the credits, as in Dragon Quest VIII, a brief cutscene will play. It shows where the party has to go to begin the postgame in earnest.

Then, the player is notified about the Draconian Quest restrictions completed. If you save afterwards, you will get a starred file that you can use to start the postgame.

Next time, the party will get started with the postgame. If you thought the main game was good, just wait.

Thanks for watching!
