0This is my last and (thank God) successful attempt to kill the final boss. I must admit it was a tough fight, which alone took the difficulty of the game to another level.
Although I know there are different paths you can take and different family trees to uncover, to add some replayability value to the game, from what I've seen there are no great differences in the ending. So, I decided to consider this game beaten and move on.
Despite the cheap final boss fight, I really think this is one of the best PS1 games I have played so far (mind you that I did not own the console back in the day, so I am still making myself familiar with its library). It has nice music, appealing graphics, uncomplicated and yet entertaining story and gameplay. The only large disadvantage I'd point out is the unclear puzzle design. Without a map system and without any prompts (sometimes a little piece of information like "A brazier" would be VERY helpful) the game may just leave you completely lost, with lots of backtracking, which is not a good option (because of the limited inventory and ways to heal yourself). Sometimes, I got stuck for a really long time simply because I could not recognize what a particular element actually was (like the said brazier or a weak floor which I took for a button in the floor, a moving panel, anything but a spot that you are supposed to hit with the air attack...). Nonetheless, Dragon Valor is a great game that I highly recommend!
