In this video, Dragon's Lair, released in 1990 for the Atari ST by Readysoft.
Based on Cinematronics 1983 coin-op, the famous Dragon's Lair has been ported to the ST with several cuts in order to fit 6 double sided floppy disks. The aim of the game is to aid Dirk the Daring save Princess Daphne by killing the dragon Singe that guards her. We have to pass several "rooms" where we only have to make the right move at the right time, the game does the rest of the effort automatically. Despite the ST hardware limitations, the result is amazing with excellent digitized graphics (it also supports STe extended colour palette) and terrific digitized in-game soundtrack/FX at 8KHz. Like Space ace and other laser disc game's conversions, the main problem is the lack of interaction between the player and the game, because you don't control every action of Dirk, rather you control his reactions to the events that happens around him in every room ruining the playability and making these kind of games pompous and expensive tech demos.

Here you'll find full auto-play game from loading screens to end game scene

Fun fact: To increase the playing time, mirrored rooms were added but if you had a single sided drive you could only play reduced amount of rooms.

All footage taken from original hardware machines and upscaled to 1080P.

Let me know what do you think about the video in the comments below but, most important, Enjoy!!!
