The lore:
Dread Fighter Donnel Tinhead, also known as Dreadful Donnel, is the most powerful character in the Fire Emblem franchise.
Everyone that recruited and trained Donnel knows that he becomes a monster. Not just in the physical sense, but mentally as well. In the first prologue, 90% of people trap an archer so he can't move. Just imagine that, two units on the side of the archer as essentially each holding one of the archer's arms, leaving his torso exposed. The soldiers, goad Donnel to finish the job: "C'mon, Donny! You can do it! Just stab 'im!" and Donnel replies, "I-I dunno, I ain't even stuck a pig before!" And they continue cheering, "C'mon, Donny! Stab 'im!" until Donny just finally gives it a go.
Except, of course, one stab doesn't do it. "Keep stabbing!"- the archer isn't dead yet, and Donnel just has to keep stabbing, and stabbing, and stabbing the poor archer until sweet death finally ends his suffering. At which point, everyone celebrates. The positive reinforcement takes hold as Donny slowly, steadily gains a knack for combat, and becomes a monster on the battlefield, both physically and mentally. A monster with a taste for blood.
The stone that Donnel's father gave to his son isn't actually a stone but the heart of Fjalar encased in stone. As a dread fighter, Donnel has the strength to break the stone and drink the contents, reigniting the Fjalar blood inside of him.
Donnel memorizing an entire book in Maribelle's support conversation isn't a coincidence- Donnel is a direct descendant from Arvis. This also explains why Owain has the brand but Lissa doesnt have it, as Donnel is the one with royal blood from hundreds of years ago after all. A Ylisse brand means the Fjalar family fled to Ylisse and intermingled with the Archanean royalty after losing the holy war.
The Valflame is a tome that uses the scorching power of nuclear fusion- The Valflame tome did not have its true potential unlocked by Arvis as he had a corrupted heart, sealing away the deadliest contents for a worthier user. Instead, Arvis cast homing Nuclear Hellfire from the sky upon his targets which is something Dreadful Donnel is also capable of doing.
At the highest level of mastery, Valflame can be conducted in an organism's body from a distance. As Donnel masters complete control over the atmosphere, he can summon a hypersonic ultraviolet radioactive vapor within a billionth of a second which pollutes the air that the target breathes in, and reacts violently with the uranium in the bones and the hydrogen in the blood, breaking apart the atoms of both substances in the target's body. Combining the radiation emitted by the vapor with both Fission and Fusion reactions at once causes a catastrophic Nuclear Meltdown in the body of the target, subsequently resulting in a devastating explosion from the inside with no residue left over as the target is effectively wiped from existence.
During the final battle with Apotheosis Anna, Donnel's wife Lissa is slain in battle. Out of sheer rage, Donnel unleashes the full might of Valflame which not only wipes Anna from existence, but detonates the entire fabric of time, space, logic and reality in the universe sending his friends whom he shielded to survive the intial blast to alternate dimensions and searing Donnel's face from the boiling heat into a skull with seared flesh and pierced shrapnel as he was blasted away into the void of nothingness from his own explosion.
