This is my second time defeating Elana the Squalid Queen, the first time being on my PS3 playthrough. For myself, she was the hardest boss throughout DS2, but it was also a massive pain in the butt considering I was unaware of the hidden bonfire that you activate by pressing the action button next to a wall with no prompt and that's super stupid. I accept hating the game for not making it more available. Even when I'm playing online, it's extremely rare for me to find any good hints for finding things such as hidden bonfires. When I did go for fighting her, I'd maybe died like 25 times to her and her minions. I think I was level 126 at the time of defeating her then.

Anyways, I defeated her on this playthrough on my 3rd attempt and this is it. I've realised that summoning Jugo is of great help; I don't think I've summoned him alone before. It helps to have some high Agility for dodging her attacks and healing quickly.

1. Summon Jugo from the bottom floor before the fog gate. He's farther back than Ellie.
2. Sprint to Elana once she starts her dialogue at the beginning of the fight. Get some hits in then.
3. Defeat the skeletons if she summons them. During her early fight summons, she's vulnerable. Spear may be preferable to keep your shield up to block incoming attacks from many sides.
4. If she performs a dark AOE attack, there's an opening to her once the mist at her feet disappears.
5. If she summons Velstadt, you should then focus entirely on defense. If you have Jugo with you, he should be working himself on her as Elana and Velstadt are on you. Jugo appears to be a tank and can hold himself pretty fine. Praise the MOONLIGHT!
