This update also introduced 3 new item skin sets - the Fledgling's, Survivalist's, and Builder's set all make their way into DST. All 3 skin sets can be purchased as one in the Bounteous Bundle, which is currently on sale for only 16 USD.
Begin by heading over to the Lunar Island and catching one or more wild carrats for yourself, using a simple wicker trap. They can be easily caught by dropping a trap over them in planted form, and then picking them, resulting in a guaranteed catch. Carrats can also be purchased from the Carrat Shrine for 4 gold nuggets.
Next, you'll want to set up a Carrat Shrine in order to construct your race course. Build one from the structures tab using 8 gold and 2 boards, and then place a raw carrot upon it's altar in order to begin offering. Unless you have Lucky Gold Nuggets saved over from previous years, you will only be able to buy a Starting Point and Finish Line kit for 1 regular gold nugget each, the barebones for building a racecourse.
Place the two structures near each other, and then place a carrat on the starting line. Right clicking on it will hit the gong - and commence the race!
Each race can only support up to 4 rats - for every slot not filled by a player's rat, a spooky shadow rat will appear and race against your own. No matter how your rat places in the race, you will recieve a reward in Lucky Gold Nuggets, however you can only recieve a reward every so often. Nearby Carrat Shrines will change appearance depending on whether there are avaliable rewards - if the rat on the shrine is holding a lucky pouch, rewards can be obtained.
Using Lucky Nuggets obtained from the races, you can purchase a number of other trinkets in order to build bigger and better race courses. The first of these is a Checkpoint Kit selling for 2 lucky nuggets - with this, you can make much longer race tracks for your rats, as each checkpoint must be touched before your rat can finish the course. For 4 lucky nuggets, there is also a 'gym' avaliable for each rat stat - Speed, Reflexes, Endurance, and Navigation. Each stat has a large impact on the carrat's performance in the races, and can be buffed up by placing your rat in the respective Gym. By purchasing a Carrat Scale Kit for 1 nugget, you can see how your carrat's traits weigh up, and in what areas it may need improving.
