One approach to level design is to make a space and use it to the max, making player go back and forth. Other is to make continuous path where the player constantly advances. This map uses both.

First we have two locations separated by destroyed apartment building, then, after finding the first key we open more parts of them until we finally open the path to the next area.

The design perfectly captures Duke's realistic atmosphere and has good twists on how the place is layed out and decorated.

Gameplay is perfectly balanced, giving you all the tools to fight effectively.

Lighting has strong contrast, though some places are borderline impossible to navigate due to their darkness.

At the beginning it's very hard to find where to go, because you're supposed to jump down a tiny hatch on the ground. Thankfully, after that the progress is smooth and there are no more such issues.
