The xorn first appeared in first edition in the original Monster Manual (1977), they devour earthen and silicate materials, and have a taste for gems, precious metals, and magical items. Xorns sometimes attack wealthy adventurers, especially on the Prime Material Plane, where it is much harder for the xorn to find its normal sustenance. But you can't judge them all based on the actions of a few starving individuals, many Xorn are actually quite nice. Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying games have all sorts of weird creatures from the elementals to dragons that live in the other planes of the D&D multiverse.
