If you refrain yourself from button mashing and instead give combo input precisely at last possible moment, this can create subtle effects with certain weapons.

Unlike in f.e. God of War, giving delayed input in this era of Warriors-games does NOT delay the start of the next attack; rather, the attack starts at the usual time but some of its start-up frames are skipped. This ensures combos always have the correct rhythm to them, but the fact the way some frames are dropped can cause mild side effects too.

The most obvious effect is that the combos start looking more janky, since the subtle transition animations in between parts of the combo don't play. Any offset in character location that's supposed to occur as a part of the attack is calculated in a strange looking way, causing mild "zips" forward in some cases. I didn't notice any big zips in Dynasty Warriors 7, but I did see some more impressive ones in Dynasty Warriors 8 and Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate. But more about that later, if it should ever become relevant.

0:00 - curved sword has quite an unique effect. Delaying input makes the regular combo string play out with the sword still in its sheathe, so it looks like you're hacking away at enemies with an invisible sword. This is just a visual effect, though. Also, this effect seems to be unique to DW7 - it doesn't seem to happen any longer in DW8 or WO3U.

0:35 - certain projectile attacks like throwing knives fail to appear if you skip too many start-up frames. This is more than a visual effect.

1:04 - an example of a janky looking combo. The claws air combo is actually the first attack string that made me realize delayed input was a thing. You can skip so many of the start-up frames for the 2nd attack that you only end up with its recovery frames, so it looks like you just powerlessly nudge in air instead of doing an elegant swipe. As mentioned, skipping frames impacts the character offset and your trajectory in air slightly too.

1:18 - I noticed horseback attacks can be affected too. War fan and bow both fire projectiles which can mysteriously vanish if you skip too many start-up frames.

This is all I got for Dynasty Warriors 7 as far as delayed input is concerned, but research is still underway in WO3U...
