E Waste Dumpster Nintendo Adventure

Dad brought over an NES with a gray light gun. They came from an e-waste dumpster in a small town. probably not protected by the elements at all. It blows me away when I find people throwing stuff like this out. Who owned it? I bet some kid had some great adventures with it. How did it become e-waste? Why did no one think that it could be worth money or have someone to give it to.
