FIFA 14 is a football simulation video game developed by EA Canada and published by Electronic Arts worldwide under the EA Sports label. It was released in September 2013 for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Microsoft Windows.[1] It was released as a freemium, under the title FIFA 14 Mobile, for iOS and Android on 23 September 2013[2] and for Windows Phone 8 on 28 February 2014,[3] although much of the game is inaccessible without an in-app payment. It was a launch title for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2013.[4][5] The PlayStation 2 version was only released in PAL territories and Spanish-speaking markets,[6] and was the last game released for the system in the Americas. The PlayStation Portable version was only released as a digital download in North America.[7]

The game received primarily positive reviews across all systems.

Ignite Engine

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game feature a new game engine called the Ignite Engine. This features both graphical and gameplay advances on the previous game engine used by the FIFA series, the Impact Engine (which is used for the PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game[8]). Improvements include advanced AI to make players react more like real human beings (such as becoming anxious towards the end of a game when their team needs to score), "True Player Motion" to create more realistic movement from the players, and more enhanced realism for environmental features such as weather and the crowd, which responds to what is happening on the pitch in a manner similar to a real crowd (such as lamenting a near miss).[9] It was initially thought that the PC version of the game would also feature the Ignite Engine, but in May 2013, EA Sports confirmed this would not be the case.[10]

EA Sports FC 24[1] is an association football-themed simulation video game developed by EA Vancouver and EA Romania and published by EA Sports. It is the inaugural installment in the EA Sports FC series[2] following on from the successful FIFA video game series after Electronic Arts's partnership with FIFA concluded with FIFA 23. EA Sports FC 24 is the 31st overall installment of EA's football simulation games,[1][3] and launched worldwide on 29 September 2023 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.[4]

The cover for the Standard Edition of the game features Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. The cover for Ultimate Edition of the game features 31 iconic current and former players from around the world[5] in a style akin to the cover of the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.[6] Among the notable figures are Sam Kerr, Virgil van Dijk, Son Heung-min, Zinedine Zidane, Pelé and David Beckham.[3][7]

When the Ultimate Edition cover was revealed, fans commented on the poor resemblance of many figures to the real life players they represented, bringing into question whether the likenesses in the game would also be bad. Electronic Arts vice president John Shepherd soon after stated that the in-game likenesses would be improved. Shepherd explained that EA had wanted to include a large number of players to reflect the many league and club licenses they had for EA Sports FC 24, and that dealing with the approvals for so many players and kits had made designing the cover art more complex. EA had also received feedback from players after the cover debuted.[8] Besides concern for the game graphics, fans also joked about the figures and how unintentionally funny some of the faces appeared, particularly the figure of Andrea Pirlo looking "lost"[6] or like a Hobbit[7] at the back; possibly a late addition to the cover, Pirlo did not appear in the other.

Fans also noted the absence of Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo from the Ultimate Edition cover.[7]

HyperMotion V
HyperMotion technology was first introduced in FIFA 22,[9] with EA touting HyperMotion V as the "biggest leap forward"; promotion for the game highlighted the feature as the game's USP.[10][11] Volumetric data from 180 matches featuring predominantly English and Spanish professional men's and women's teams was used in developing the technology.[10] It is used only in the regular version of the game, available on Windows for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.[12]

Clubs and VOLTA Football
The combined Clubs and VOLTA Football mode introduces cross-platform play between users on same-generation consoles, expanding cross-play into all of the game's online multiplayer modes. Users can cross-play between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Windows, while users on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can cross-play with each other.[19]
