EASY gaming rig, QUIET with GOOD Performance -- GTX 970
I'm a console gamer that recently switched to PC, and I think I hit it out of the park with this "rig" for gaming.
The video was meant to be a simple demonstration of how quietly and cooly the computer runs, and then I decided to talk about what I like about the setup.
This video offers perspective for people that want the easiest solution for high quality gaming.
My definition of high quality gaming is 1080p, SOLID 60fps (but will go as high as 120), High settings on just about any game, but ultra settings on most, and quiet, with low heat.
If 30fps is okay for you, this setup will probably run 4K from what I've seen and read. But I use this for 1080p at the moment. (I am looking into a 1440 monitor to test higher resolutions out)
I have not gamed on a 4K monitor of any kind, so I cannot offer any recommendation beyond 1080p before I do so.
The one caveat I have with recommending this setup to everybody is that the stock power supply is rated at less than what Nvidia suggests for this graphics card.
This "rig" is just an OEM Dell computer with a GTX 970 graphics card. This is a pretty powerful graphics card to be running on an OEM power supply, but searches on the Internet suggest that it works fine, and my experience so far has seemed to show that. This power supply is actually lower than what Nvidia recommends, but on Dell's own forum, their moderators do not say it's a problem. The moderators even took the time over a 20 page thread to discuss with customers how to update their BIOS to accommodate this card. (you should see which BIOS is on your computer BEFORE installing this card. For many users, this card will not work without the proper BIOS.
According to 3D Fire Strike (normal), this "rig" performs better than 93% of all computers that have uploaded results. That is not at all bad for a QUIET OEM computer with no upgrades other than a graphics card. I have several videos on this channel showing some results I've had with this setup. Unfortunately, YouTube will never do the footage justice, but at the very least, you can see how smoothly the games play, and I have a FRAPS counter in the upper left hand corner. (using VSynch, most games are a STEADY 60fps... without VSynch, the games go from 70fps to 120fps)
