This E3 2018 Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield in direct contradiction of their previous goal of announcing closer to releases. I submit the reasoning for this is none other than damage control after the lackluster reception the 2017 E3. Bethesda's PR machine has first used humor to attempt to defuse several large grievances people have had with the company, and then using announcements that are further out as a way to show more than is currently on offer.

Corrections:
1 - When i said Elder Scrolls 5, I meant 6.
2 - "Cyber Connect 2" is the proper name of the company that started on and failed to produce the Final Fantasy 7 remake.
