We have some interesting and shocking news to share regarding the release date of ES6 and all the fascinating details we've learned so far from the FTC trial. And it's probably not news most of us want to hear in regards to the RPG.

During the FTC trial investigating Microsoft's Blizzard Activision purchase, we've uncovered juicy information about in-development games and past grievances that are typically kept under wraps. If you're eagerly anticipating Elder Scrolls 6, we've got some bad news for you. Phil Spencer, under oath, confirmed that the game won't be arriving anytime soon and may not even be released for this generation of consoles.

To start, let's talk about a rather petty move by Sony. They stated that if Microsoft's purchase goes through, they won't share any details about the Playstation 6 with Activision Blizzard. This move could potentially backfire on Sony, as it may prevent them from launching titles like Call of Duty as launch titles. Whether Sony's concerns about "sensitive information being shared with a direct competitor" are warranted or if this is an attempt to sabotage the deal remains to be seen.

Speaking of Sony, in court, Phil Spencer confirmed that Starfield might have been a PS5 exclusive if Microsoft hadn't acquired ZeniMax. Sony's exclusivity deals for games like Ghostwire: Tokyo and Deathloop raised concerns, leading Microsoft to secure ZeniMax to keep Starfield from becoming another exclusive title. In the testimony, it was also revealed that Sony had signed a deal with Square Enix to keep Final Fantasy 16 as a PS5 exclusive.

Microsoft again admitted that it has been trailing behind Sony and Nintendo in the console wars since the launch of Xbox 20 years ago. They submitted a document to the court stating that Xbox was significantly outsold by both Sony and Nintendo in 2001, and the trend continued ever since. While the exact market shares for Sony and Nintendo were redacted, Xbox had a 16% share in 2021 with an installed base of 21%, placing it behind the other two platforms.

The Indiana Jones game from MachineGames, initially announced as a multiplatform release in 2021, underwent changes after the ZeniMax acquisition. The deal was amended to release the game on PC and Xbox, with a day one release on Gamepass. Lucasfilm's influence and the fact that it's a licensed game played a role in this decision.

Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision Blizzard, reportedly demanded a higher revenue share than the standard from Xbox for Call of Duty and almost decided not to release the game on Xbox. Quite ironic since Call of Duty has been center to the merger discussions and it could have actually been a Playstation exclusive...

Now for the devastating news to the Elder Scrolls community. Elder Scrolls 6 is still at least 5+ years away, meaning it might not be released until 2028 or later. Considering that Skyrim was released in 2011 and Oblivion in 2006, this extended wait is quite extraordinary. However, there's an intriguing connection to our next point.

Microsoft expects the next generation of consoles to arrive in 2028, raising the possibility that they are developing Elder Scrolls 6 with that generation in mind. It's conceivable that ES6 might skip the current generation of consoles entirely, which would be frustrating given that the official announcement for the game was made way back in 2018, two years before the current generation launched. Teasing a game for a decade is certainly a bold move, perhaps even a stupid move, but they know we'll still play the game.
