Recording in HDR with the Elgato 4K60 Pro MK.2 is effortless, but actually encoding videos while preserving that fancy color mode turned out to be more of a headache than I was anticipating.

To get the most out of my capture card, I changed software for video production from the old Cyberlink PowerDirector 14 to (the annoyingly subscription-based) Adobe Premiere Pro. Premiere really takes advantage of my expensive PC hardware and makes for a wonderfully fast and smooth editing process - with one glaring exception; the HDR settings ("High 10") is excruciatingly slow and there doesn't appear to be anything you can do about it.

For example, this 10 minute 4K video with high dynamic range took an insane 4 hours to produce (by comparison, the SDR version - with all the same quality settings except for HDR - finished encoding in less than 20 minutes). While dropping the resolution to 1080p makes a significant difference, the whole process is still way too time-consuming to be practical.

Although not a deal-breaker per se (getting high quality 4K SDR capture from my consoles is still a significant upgrade for me), it's a shame that a technology like HDR isn't easier to work with despite having been around for several years now.
