Elite: Dangerous is a massive scale openworld (well galaxy) space game which includes standard space sim fare of combat, trading and exploration. The Close Quarters Combat Championship is an Arena based mode for Elite, slightly separate to the main game. This provides fast paced combat in small fighters in deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag not possible in the main game.
CQC unfortunatly doesn't have as large a following as when it was first added, making it difficulty at times to find a match. However with the help of the CQC discord channel matches can be found, though often with some of the best out there, so they are very difficult.
It is a very fun game mode, and recommend everyone with Elite to try it out!
