Horizons Beta is the pre-release of the upcoming expansion and stand alone game of Elite Dangerous. At the time of recording the expansion has not been released yet. At this time Horizons is for Pre-Order ONLY but will contain BOTH games once released.

The First installment has been released and is available for purchase. However you will not have access to any future horizons only content.

Purchasing both separately will give you access to the exclusive Cobra Mark IV in game as well as a loyalty discount for Horizons.

I really didn't like this ship when it was introduced, it was slower, with less internals, less hardpoints, and a shorter jump range. In every other way another ship is better but it does have a niche as a early pirate ship or armored fighter. It's not going to be the best in combat either but its a role previously unfilled at this mass and price point.

Armor builds are kind of irrelevant anyway since the cockpit goes so easily.

Multicannons and cannons worked the best overall but they weren't as fun.
