Elmo is speaking out about the Katy Perry Sesame Street controversy. On September 24, 2010, just one day after the announcement that Perry's skit with Elmo was pulled from the PBS children's show ''Sesame Street,'' Elmo broke his silence on the matter with an appearance on ABC's ''Good Morning America.''
The controversial video clip of Perry on ''Sesame Street'' features the singer performing a duet of her hit song "Hot N Cold" with Elmo. In the skit, Perry asks Elmo for a play date, but he seems "wishy-washy" about it. Perry then launches into "Hot N Cold" - with modified lyrics to fit the situation. The video was posted on YouTube - and that's where the problems began. The Children's Television Workshop made the decision to pull the Katy Perry segment from the ''Sesame Street'' TV show after some viewers complained it was "inappropriate" and showed too much of Perry's cleavage.
In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Elmo said he does want to sing with Perry again, saying "Elmo loves Ms. Katy and we had a good time." Elmo went on to say that he and Perry will "have another play date." Elmo appeared on ''GMA'' alongside Sesame Street Executive Producer Carol-Lynne Parente, who told Stephanopoulos that she was "surprised at the volume of disapproving responses the video had generated."
Elmo and Parente were also joined by Grover for the interview. Grover, who was sporting a new Super Grover costume, asked Stephanopoulos if he thought the outfit was "too revealing?" Grover said it was his "new getup for Super Grover 2.0."
