*NOTE: This is an unedited archive of a live no-commentary playthrough originally streamed on Twitch (  / bippoernesti  , which means there may be deaths, restarts or intermissions/interruptions.

The stream had to be split into two parts due to YouTube's 12-hour limit. I tried to pick a spot where splitting it would make the parts about even in length without too severely interrupting an ongoing story situation.

Part 1:    • Emerald Dragon [SFC | ENG Translated]...
Part 2: You're here

---------------

Emerald Dragon is an obscure RPG that was released on multiple systems, but never left Japan. Thankfully, the Super Famicom release has an English fan translation by Translation Corporation (hence the wacky intro). Much like Mystic Ark, I fell in love with the game's music and I simply had to try it out. The Field Battle theme still blows me away to this day.

It's a great game if you have enough fortitude for the battle system. Enemy encounters are random, very frequent and can contain an enormous quantity of enemies. Combining this with the fact that you are only ever truly in control of one single character in your party of up-to-five members, there's a lot of just watching things play out, even if you have the ability to tell the AI-controlled characters to target specific opponents. Some random encounters can actually last longer than some boss fights, which is crazy.

Emerald Dragon is one of those games I had waiting as a to-do game for years and years; I still have one stray "part 1" from 2011 when I was planning to finally do a playthrough of it, which evidently didn't work out.

Got crazy lucky against in the Garcia rematch, usually he busts out a 9500 HP self-heal every turn, negating almost all damage dealt to him. Also, it's still funny to me that the Sleep Gin works on the final boss.

I missed a secret at the very end of the game that I'm more than a bit upset about, I made the same mistake I did with Dragon Scroll where I didn't think to check for any easter eggs. Basically, if you've defeated all the Bunny minigames and you wait for 5 minutes at the very end with the MediaWorks logo, you're greeted by the Welcome Bunny who offers you a selection of three "outtakes", which are comedic takes on scenes from the actual game itself. I still haven't decided if I'll do a follow-up video for them, since there already are at least two uploads that cover it, though both are very old and pretty rough quality.

Stream title should be obvious if you're aware of the game. Live notification is was just something I wrote to keep it from being a generic live message, trying to imitate the all-too-familiar sound of missing every attack.

Added a little thumbnail so it's easier to tell part one apart from part another.

Stream Title: Dragon Change!
Live Notification: HAA! ting HAA! ting HAA! ting
Stream Description: "A playthrough of the Super Famicom version of Emerald Dragon using an English translation patch. I don't have a clear estimate for the length, so I don't know if this will be a two-parter. I'll try to go through as much of the dialogue as I can, but I will definitely miss several chats, inn visits and NPC lines.

Considering the potential length of the stream (very likely well over 10 hours), I may take very short breaks."
