Translator's Notes:
[1] The xiezhi (獬豸) is a mythical ancient creature. It represents fairness, truthfulness and righteousness. When it finds corrupt officials, it will ram them with its horn and devour them. It is known as a symbol of justice. So it fits Artem's role extremely well.
[2] 床榻 is specifically mentioning about the traditional Chinese bedframe, usually made of wood.
[3] Rather than a 24-hour system, ancient Chinese people have 12 segments of time per day (时辰), and each segment is two hours.
[4] This is a little complicated to explain, while "王" (Wang) is associated with "King", but in this scenario it's actually the emperor's brother. Different dynasties has a different way to address this, but from the Records of Grand Historian, convenient terms of the form "(locality)" + "(king)" such as Changshawang, "King of Changsha". Hence, 九王 (Jiu Wang) is Ninth King (or Ninth Prince).
[5] In ancient China, if you were to show disrespect to officials or the nobles, it can lead to a very serious crime that may cost lives.
[6] There's no direct translation of "下官该死" to English in my opinion. "下官" is a way to refer to himself as an officer of a lower rank. "该死" means "I deserve to die", and the garrison is saying he has sinned so much he deserves to die, but when this line is said, it is usually used to beg for forgiveness.
[7] This is referring to the Chinese drinking culture. To drink with someone under the moonlight (and especially full moon) is exceptionally poetic and romantic.
[8] This is a poem titled 野有蔓草, which is also the title of the card. "野有蔓草，零露漙兮。有美一人，清扬婉兮。邂逅相遇，适我愿兮。". It translates to: "The weeds swarmed, the dew on the grass shone brightly. There was a beautiful woman walking on the road, with clear and beautiful eyes. It was a real coincidence that my wishes are fulfilled...
[9] This poem is about a very romantic and free love: beautiful scenery at a good time, meeting a beautiful woman, falling in love at first sight, and hiding in the depths of the hand in hand, just like a pair of free and happy lovebirds, once the relationship is reconciled, they will soar together.
[10] A memorial to the throne is an official way to communicate to the Emperor of China.
[11] A fly-whisk/ fly-swish is a tool that is used to swat flies.
[12] Bride price is basically prepared from the male side to the female side's family to propose marriage to the daughter of the family.
[13] It is not surprising for bride and groom to have not met before getting married in ancient China, some may only know each other's backgrounds briefly, but there are also those who have met in a chance encounter, or loved freely, but this isn't weird at all. [14] Usually if a case of murder/ attempt of murder involves the harm/ death of a royal family member, execution of family and relatives is unsurprising. In this case it is likely that both Wenhua and Xiezhi mansions are also abolished from serving the nation.
[15] Tying hair for your s/o is something extremely intimate and romantic - and is usually done between husband and wife

*4 Remember the part where Artem's bodyguard said Artem had something important to do on the day of the father's birthday banquet? The 'important' thing is very likely him wanting to propose marriage with MC's father.
