Even if you managed to get high influence for the two deserters and get them to participate in the Tower of Light boss battle, they'll be temporarily booted at the beginning of Act 3 for one dungeon.
Be sure to pick up the quest from the blacksmith. She'll make a really good weapon for physical attackers.
In the Monster Nest, you'll eventually find some Obsidian Ore for the blacksmith. Save before talking to her again, since you'll have to choose an Obsidian weapon for her to make. I went with the spear so that Jeska can make use of it.
[ 31:54 ] Boss: Abaddon (Purist)
If you succeed in your Speech check in the pre-battle dialogue, you can prevent Abaddon from feeding on your fear. He can also change his weaknesses, making him a boss geared for Vane in a way.
Your other party members will rejoin you when you enter Gaia's Sanctuary, which is under Lightbringer control now. Thyrra tells us to visit Hakim in Kariid so we can find a way to get to Shadowmoor. She'll then disappear for the rest of the game doing something else. Damn, I was hoping to learn more about her connection to the previous Thyrra.
