The arena catacombs require you to pull the levers in a specific order, which should light the torches. Keep an eye out for Malnorn's journal, and maybe use the online save editor to check that if it increments variable 39.
[ 16:10 ] Boss: Cerberus (Purist)
Cerberus is flanked by some allies, but otherwise shouldn't be too tough.
Be sure to grab the Black Residue for the quest and when you report to Scipio, give him the Ancient Sigil. Yes, you will need it later, but you can get it back by talking to him again and using the Speech talent.
At Kariid, you have to talk to Hakim to get your next task. You need to get a Researcher's Seal to get into the Flying Fortress, and you're given the choice of doing a job for Lady Talia or stealing it from her. I recommend the former, since it makes it easier to get the piece of lore from her palace.
At the palace, examine the terminal for some lore. I confirmed that this will increment variable 39.
Talia wants us to assassinate the knoll chief, which will make the knolls too disorganized to cause much trouble for Kariid. At the knoll camp, the scout recommends using stealth to avoid any fight with the guards, which is actually easier than it looks because the knolls have only a short line for their FOV. Make your way around the camp picking up key items and clues. You'll need the password, 2498 to open the chest containing Lever Handle. Once you confront the boss, you can use Speech to convince his minions to abandon him.

Once you make it back, Talia will actually comment on your kill count. She actually wishes we killed all the knolls, but is still impressed if only the leader is killed.
