End of Zoe is the paid for DLC for Resident Evil VII which, like the free DLC featuring Chris Redfield, tells the story after the events of the main game. This time, the story revolves around Zoe, the girl who didn’t turn out quite as bad as the rest of the Baker family. It picks up after the events in the bayou where you can decide to choose to give the antidote to either Mia or Zoe. Of course, if you save Mia, Zoe gets into trouble and this time it’s up to Jack Baker’s brother and Zoe’s uncle to save the day with his fists!
While Not a Hero focussed on gunplay, this game leads the way with fisticuffs as you fight everything with your bare hands. You’ll be throwing haymakers, jabs and uppercuts at the Mould as they attempt to kill you using the left and right triggers. Although you won’t have loads of control over which blows you deal, it is fun beating seven shades of shit out of them and then stamping on them to finish them off. You’ll also be collecting grubs which you can eat to get energy back. Gross and a little weird to be honest, and also sticks you can craft into spears to throw at your enemies from a distance. Oh and did I mention you can also craft the odd bomb you can throw on the floor and detonate? No? Well, I just did. If you don’t fancy fighting you can also sneak up on the monsters to tear their heads off or break their necks. It’s all pretty brutal. If you enjoyed the Condemned games, you’ll be right at home here.
In true Resident Evil V style you’ll also have to avoid alligators which can kill you instantly. This is probably the most frustrating part of the game but also pretty tense as you try to avoid walking into their camouflaged jaws! Also look out for pugilist dolls that give you an extra 1% of attack power. Doesn’t sound like a lot but they all add up.
Later on you’ll also get to be a badass with a power gauntlet which has three levels of charge. Once you get this you can then put pay to Mould with one punch and take it with you from the start on your next play through. You’ll also get access to an extra hard mode and a shotgun on a second playthrough you can collect from the chest, and timers appear that give you an extra challenge.
The up-close nature of this game is a lot of fun and like the last DLC, it is short coming in at around 90 minutes. You will of course have to pay for this if you don’t already have the Gold Edition of the game so it’s up to you if you think 15 dollars is worth it or not. What it does, it does well, with a different vibe from before and yet again, a little extra story to make sense of. It gets 7 out of 10.
