An adventure game with survival elements. In Endling we play as a fox trying to escort three puppies to a place where people cannot hurt them.
Endling is an adventure game enriched with survival elements. The production was developed by the independent Spanish team of Herobeat Studios, which consists of people who previously worked in companies such as King, Atari, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts.
Endling shows a dystopian vision of the future - the excessive use of natural resources by mankind has led to environmental pollution, endangering the lives of wild animals. The title allows us to embody a fox which, together with three puppies, tries to reach a place where people will not hurt them; on this journey, the heroine teaches her offspring the art of survival in a world that is inhospitable to them.
In Endling the action is shown from the side. During the game we travel through different locations, hunt for smaller animals (and at the same time we try to avoid a situation in which our charges become victims themselves, which usually requires hidden action under the cover of night), and we also make morally ambiguous decisions. An important role is also played by our choice of a hiding place, where the fox and its children spend the day planning their next steps. As we progress, not only do we see the differences between individual puppies with greater clarity (each of them has its own personality), but we also see how they grow up and become fearsome predators from initially defenceless creatures.
The three-dimensional graphics of Endling were designed in a cartoony style. The gloomy atmosphere that accompanies the gameplay is built not only by the scarce colour scheme and the depressing appearance of the locations that were devastated by mankind but also by the melancholic soundtrack.
