English of the Dead (Nintendo DS) Playthrough
A playthrough of Sega's 2009 educational game for the Nintendo DS, ゾンビ式 英語力蘇生術 English of the Dead.
Zonbishiki eigodzikara soseijutsu ("Zombie English Resuscitation") English of the Dead is one of several spin-offs/remakes of Sega's popular light-gun shooter, The House of the Dead 2 ( • The House of the Dead 2 (Wii) Playthr... ).
It is a DS-exclusive designed to teach Japanese speakers English vocabulary, grammar, and how to write the characters of the Latin alphabet, and it's all set to The House of the Dead 2's story mode.
As James, a member of the AMS, you blast zombies as you search Venice for the ever-elusive Dr. Goldman. Armed with a tablet and a Sega Genesis strapped on your back, you shoot by writing out the words that appear on the screen, filling in blanks with the appropriate words, and translating short phrases.
It's stupid, silly fun, and it's an excellent learning tool. It requires a working knowledge of Japanese to play, but I learned a fair bit with it back when I was studying Japanese in college. The cutscenes are all fully voiced in English, too, so I think it would still be fun to watch without knowing any Japanese.
