Enjoy Samantha B.'s interview with David Nadelberg and Merk Nguyen about Ooh! You're in Trouble, a podcast on TRAX. David Nadelberg, the co-creator and writer of the podcast, is best known for being the creator of Mortified, a grassroots storytelling project where adults share embarrassing childhood diaries, letters and art. Merk Nguyen narrates the series as that little voice inside your head or “LV.” She is also the co-host of the podcast Adult-ISH.
From the makers of the delightfully cringe-worthy teen diary storytelling podcast Mortified, Ooh! You're in Trouble is a hilarious and innovative podcast for kids and parents about breaking the rules, with the aim of helping middle schoolers with the one thing they really care about — getting to make decisions for themselves. Think of it as a kid-appropriate true crime podcast for middle school misdemeanors (e.g. defying the school dress code, pranking school bullies, smuggling contraband candy into the house). Season 2 of Ooh! You're in Trouble is available now with 12 brand-new episodes.
From sneaking out of the house past curfew to organizing a protest, Ooh! You're In Trouble shares true stories of rebels, rascals, rule breakers and even revolutionaries. Hosted by Merk Nguyen, who goes by "LV" (Little Voice Inside Your Head), Ooh! You're in Trouble features tales of mischief from real kids - like Ava, who petitions her school to mandate masks during the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020, and Xiomara, who gets revenge against a bully by putting live worms in their lunch. The character of LV gives kids a voice to express what they're experiencing in real time, which is particularly vital during this challenging moment in history.
Says Mortified co-creator Dave Nadelberg, "When we were fleshing out the initial premise for Ooh! You're in Trouble, Neil (Katcher, Co-Creator and Executive Producer), Hadley (producer) and I spoke a lot about not wanting to make this a show that shames or praises kids for acting up or breaking a rule. Breaking a rule is neither inherently a good or bad thing, but it always helps people, especially kids, learn and grow. Just like our work with Mortified, this show is also using personal storytelling to create empathy. You learn a lot when you experience the world through someone else."
