Ensign placed on wreck of HMS Antelope 02.04.13
A group of divers based at Mount Pleasant Complex in the Falkland Islands have reinstated the ensign on HMS Antelope, a Royal Navy Type 21 Frigate that was sunk during the Falklands War.
The father of one of the divers had been on the vessel at the time.
Argentine Sky hawk jets attacked HMS Antelope in May 1982, while on air defence duty at the entrance to San Carlos Water.
Two bombs were dropped, which failed to detonate straight away. One crewman, Steward Mark Stephens was killed on impact.
Royal Engineer bomb disposal technician Staff Sergeant James Prescott died later when a bomb exploded as he was trying to defuse it.
The diving team had to obtain permission from the governor of the Falkland Islands to visit the site, which is designated as a war grave.
The trip was particularly poignant for one member of the Royal Navy. Leading Chef Phil Owens's father was on board the Antelope when it was hit.
He survived the event, but never spoke of it to his son.
A wreath was laid in his and the ship's memory.
