Game Review & Impressions
---------------------------------------------------
Released in 1985 for the Commodore 64, Entombed is the second game in the Sir Arthur Pendragon series, created by Dave Thomas and published by Ultimate Play the Game.

Having survived his escapades in Staff of Karnath, Sir Arthur seems to have gotten himself into a spot of bother once again, this time becoming trapped inside an ancient Egyptian tomb. As usual, the tomb is full of deadly traps and puzzles to overcome, not to mention being cursed and haunted in equal measure.

As is typical for the series, Sir Arthur must map the corridors and rooms of the tomb, collect objects to solve puzzles, as well as clobber an endlessly spawning procession of enemies. Sir Arthur's weapon of choice this time around is his trusty bullwhip, although the absent-minded fellow appears to have misplaced it in one of the tomb's many chambers, so retrieving this should be a top priority.

I must confess I never really thought much of these games back in the day. They were far too hard for me back then, and still downright frustrating today.

To give creator Dave Thomas credit, some of the puzzles are clever in their concept, even if they end up being rather infuriating. Perhaps the cleverest of these is the room where Sir Arthur is afflicted with a curse of invisibility upon entering, and the player is expected to navigate its layout using the sound of Arthur's footsteps as an indication as to exactly where he is. It would be quite ingenious, save for the fact you have a limited time to complete the challenge before you run out of air and suffocate.

Unfortunately, it's this kind of schtick which lets Entombed down. Just as with all the games in the series, ther're some clever ideas here, but the constantly spawning enemies just suck all the enjoyment from the game.
