In this conversation we explore the concept of "environmental storytelling." This is when a game developer uses the environment such as objects in the world, interactions within the world and more to tell a narrative, evoke an emotion or guide the player.

There are many types of these games from Bloodbourne with it's investigative storytelling to What Remains of Edith Finch with it's narrative-driven environmental storytelling. We also delve into how mood is portrayed through the atmosphere in the game. Finally, we touch on Overwatch and similar games that have used the world to give players hints at a story that didn't exist in the game itself.
