It’s amazing how this adds so much from ASCII rogue, and is where the term roguelike comes from (and roguelitewhere stuff carris over between plays), with the random floors, loot and fight. Good saving though you could do permadeath if you wanna gamble.
Music feels like a horror game as you enter a room, which yes even the vintage graphics can be scary. Better than it looks and I was sold on the manual for $8, way better than wizardry at $40. Controls do take some time to get used to.
There are several soundtracks, epic, dark (this vid) and dungeon ambiance. You can also speed up moving with fast/smart move with L/R, and - goes down stairs that 2nd enemy left behind.
I’m glad Pixel Games UK is properly preserving games, without omitting manuals as Nintendo does, or the language barrier bs from starfy, yugioh early days and egg console. A game shouldn’t be available in the US region without an English option for the full experience. And of course these old games won’t have problems on a switch.
