Next week I'm off to Shanghai for the Music China (Musikmesse) show. I'm lucky enough to be demonstrating amps and other gear for Laney so I have to rehearse a few tunes with some backing tracks. This afternoon I found this little backing track from an old guitar mag. It sounds very Jeff Beck-ish so I jacked into Guitar Rig 5 Pro and hoped for the best.

The front of the video is just ambient noodlings around their "Spinning In Space" preset which I found in the 'Container' module of Guitar Rig 5 Pro. The lead sound, which kicks in at 1:22, is the "Gods Love" preset, fairly heavily tweaked to my taste. I backed off the Recto's gain, upped the mids a little and backed off the treble. I turned the Distortion module off and let the Tubescreamer do its thing with the volume cranked and the gain at almost zero. The Psycho Delay had the tempo of the track tapped into it and I turned up the repeat mix a little.

The Music Man Axis is a circa 2010 model that I've modified only by adding a D-Tuna to. I love that guitar and if I could afford to I would buy another in a flash. Still, one mustn't be greedy..!

To master the track in Pro Tools I used (as I always do) a single plug-in: Waves L3-16 Limiter. That's it, really.

I should add that I pay for my NI software. I am not a signed NI endorsement artist. I just like it!

Cheers,

B
