It is the prequel to Deus Ex. It has been developed by the company Eidos Montréal. The game takes place during the year 2027, 25 years before Deus Ex. Thus, there are constant requests from groups such as the "Front for Humanity" that ask Congress and the UN to legislate on the increases while certain terrorist groups resort to violent actions.

The main character, Adam Jensen (Elias Toufexis), is the head of security for Sarif Industries, a leading company specializing in these augmentations. After witnessing a chilling attack on his company, which leaves him horribly injured and forced to undergo an enhancement operation without his consent to survive, "the conspiracy begins." The player will visit five cities during the game, including Detroit, Henghsa and Montreal.3 Additionally, the protagonist will have his own apartment where he can keep the secrets and information obtained. The events in this game will lead to the formation of the UNATCO from the original game.
