okay, so the long and short of it is you have to start with zero target locks. the other important thing to remember is to NOT use the selected item target option - instead click the passive targeter module and as it's flashing, click on the ship in the hud or on the overview.

any offensive action, including engaging with drones, will color your ship with a red orb...but won't show the targeting bracket to the victim.

which means i'd need to stop mining and that kinda sucks. lol. still, getting the drop on some unsuspecting twerp would be priceless.

not to mention this would only work against one target at a time
