an updated version of how i go about refreshing my control units on colonies.
BTW, i don't double click on extractor control units to bring up the window, mainly because of lag making this problematic. slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

I don't go into greater detail on why i put an extra silo on some colonies, nor do i talk about why some have more than 2 extractor control units.
The former is for overflow. i just expedite xfer to a silo there's outside the normal industry processing.
The latter is because sometimes there's an advantage in having a single extractor head in an isolated spot to take advantage of a high density spot just outside reach of the main control units.
