EverQuest & EverQuest 2 New 2022 TLP Servers
EverQuest, the franchise that made MMOs what we know them today and laid the groundwork for the genre all those years ago. Both the original EverQuest and EverQuest 2 are recieving TLP or TLE servers in 2022 and not far off. TLP or TLE servers are like classic throwbacks. It stands for Time Locked Progression or Time Locked Expansion and it means that they roll out the expansions every couple of months so you can relive the legacy of these MMORPGs. The original EverQuest tends to release a new TLE yearly but EverQuest 2 doesn't usually get the same love, but this time, in 2022, they are getting it! Now let's talk all the details we know so far, and let's kick it off with the OG EverQuest first:
So we got a roadmap for 2022 for EverQuest and I thought this was awesome to see what they had lined up for the year and EverQuest has already recieved the 64-bit upgrade that they had planned to improve performance and from all I have heard, it is going really well. Later this month in April we will be getting new Classic achievements for old school quests in the starting cities, we have the server merge in June which is Phinigel and Miragul merging into the Vox server. And then, now, we get the information that the new Time-Locked Progression servers are going to be Vaniki and Yelinak. Vaniki is going to be level-locked while Yelinak will be much like Mangler and they will be ready for players to log into them on May 25th. So then they go on to explain in better terms: Vaniki for example is going to start off that you can get to level 40 at first and then have tiered unlock schedule. They expect with the unlock schedule that it will take 94 weeks or almost a 2 years to get to level 120. Yelinak on the other hand is going by unlocking expansions over time and they expect it to take 44 weeks to get from original EverQuest all the way to Gates of Discord, with unlocks happening on a 12 week apart schedule.
Now I would like to point out that 2021's TLP server releases went much smoother than prior years. There were issues with logins due to so many people being in the exact same areas and they had to throttle how many could log in at a time to keep the server from exploding, but once you got on, it was good from there and the server actually ran better than any experience I've ever had with EverQuest to date. This was due in large part to major server upgrades. Now, with the 64-bit client in our hands, I would expect 2022's EverQuest TLP server releases to be even better. It's really great news, and so many people enjoy these TLP adventures that it's hard not to be excited. And witha release of May 25th, we don't have long to wait! Let me know in the comments if you plan on playing on one of these servers!
Now this brings us to EverQuest 2 which doesn't get the yearly love that the original EverQuest gets, probably in large part due to it's smaller player base, but if you know me, you know that I love EverQuest 2, so it got announced that it too would recieve some TLE server love. ANd they haven't been ignoring EQ2 this year as here on April 12th we get the Coffers and Coffins game update which changes the Overseer minigame which I don't personally care about, but they are also adding new heroic dungeons, collections, raids and tradeskill things. But in May, we have the new Time-Locked Expansion server which is called Varsoon and they say it will be like Kaladim was but with the Free Trade ruleset. So, there is more information to come on exactly how that will work, so it sounds like there will be some alternate rules we will hear about later, so that might mean it's not just as cut and dry as it sounds, so we will see. Also, at the time of this recording there is no firm date for the EverQuest 2 TLE server to launch, only that it is planned to happen in May.
