When you take a look at the lore of EverQuest and EverQuest 2, you have to remember that these two MMORPGs technically exist in alternate realities, despite having a shared world.

For my money, I enjoy the lore of EQ2 more than EQ1, simply because it's layed out in a more streamlined fashion rather than having to pick things apart from snippets here and there. But the first game established the world of Norrath and the gods + races and cultures, so it's an important step along the overall journey of EverQuest lore.
