The military shooter boom of the middle of the decade had left consoles and PCs flooded with serious, manly games about war and its varying levels of horror, and whilst many of these titles were very, very good, gamers were crying out for something with a little more… pizazz. Enter Borderlands. Rather than fading into obscurity among the rest of the sludge, Borderlands bounced onto the scene with colourful deeley-boppers and a foul mouth, delighting gamers as it went. Since its 2009 release, Borderlands has spawned two sequels, a pre-sequel, and multiple spin-offs, as well as comics, novels, tabletop games, and even a live-action movie.
