Everybody 1-2-Switch! - Game Review
Hey there, fellow gamers! Welcome back to the "Veteran Game" channel, where we dive into the expansive world of video games, giving you the most detailed and engaging reviews. Today, we are turning our attention to a peculiar title - Everybody 1-2 Switch!
Everybody 1-2 Switch is the unexpected follow-up to 1-2 Switch, a game initially launched as a tech demo for the Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con capabilities. After undergoing some bumpy player testing and spending a year in Nintendo's vault, this unique party game has finally come to life. And you know what? It's not half bad.
As you boot up the game, you are given the option to play with either Joy-Con controllers or smart devices, setting it apart from its predecessor. You are also presented with three different lengths of contests to participate in, each a points-scoring competition set across a selection of mini-games.
Now, let's talk about the essence of the game – the mini-games. Everybody 1-2 Switch offers a collection of 17 mini-games, with 13 playable using a single Joy-Con for each player. Just as its predecessor, these games are light, fun, and get your body moving, guaranteeing a good laugh for both players and spectators alike. They might not utilize the full capacity of the Joy-Con’s capabilities like the original 1-2 Switch, but they still offer a satisfying experience for casual play.
A significant addition in Everybody 1-2 Switch is the inclusion of smart device-based games, hinting at Nintendo's inspiration from the popular Jackbox series. The potential for massive multiplayer matches with up to 100 players truly sets it apart from the original. Some of these games are a blast, like Colour Shoot, which challenges you to match colors from your surroundings using your phone's camera. Yet, others feel a bit lackluster, like the simple bingo and quiz games.
However, the game does shine when it comes to setting up multiplayer sessions. You can easily connect your smart device for group play, making it a joy to share with large gatherings. It doesn't involve any sign-in hassles, and the addition of personal profiles, chat messages, and emotes adds a charming personal touch.
But despite the fun and engaging elements of Everybody 1-2 Switch, it's a mixed bag. There's a clear disparity in quality and replayability among the 17 mini-games. For every incredibly fun party game, there's one that either doesn't work or loses its appeal too quickly.
In terms of presentation, the game does offer an improvement from its predecessor, displaying a polished combination of clean, high-resolution videos and stylized cutouts. It certainly has a bit more dazzle and appears to have benefited from higher production values.
To wrap it up, Everybody 1-2 Switch is a decent addition to the Nintendo Switch library, ideal for whipping out during social gatherings for some light-hearted fun. It ups the ante by introducing second-screen games and an increased player count. However, its longevity is questionable due to the mixed bag of mini-games. Despite its shortcomings, for its price point, it might be just the right pick for your next get-together.
