I told ratwife that there's a good chance the devs would see her complaining about the names so much and she felt really bad about it. So if you're seeing this, she says she's very sorry.

The game's first season just started this month so everyone's starting fresh: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2344320/Legacy_Steel__Sorcery/

I feel like the games industry desperately wants me to enjoy extraction shooters at the moment. Bungie is so committed to the cause they lit themselves on fire to drum up some hype for Embark studios Arc Raiders.

Full loot pvp is almost aggressively aimed at a small subset of people, to the point that the number one critique I've seen about Extraction shooters is to make it another genre entirely by adding the option for PvE. At that point you've just made the devs take the scenic route to looter shooters.

If you don't know what I'm yammering on about, that's fine, I'm about to describe a game that checks most of the extraction shooter boxes.

This is Legacy: Steel & Sorcery. This is a third person extraction shooter, although most characters lack the ability to shoot so I've been calling it an extraction sworder.

I know You've already forgotten the name of the game so don't worry you don’t have alzheimers, the name is the word equivalent of beige. I think they should rename it Steel & Magic because then at least the acronym would properly reflect the genre.

It's the first game by Notorious Studios, a new studio spun out by ex WoW developers, and you know, i can sorta taste the DNA of it in the artwork, you can't tell me this isn't the most Warcraft orc you've ever seen.

My tldw review: This game has all the low key intoxicating tension of a pregnancy scare, spicing up an otherwise ordinary day of looting.

Here's the loop: pick a class to level up, drop into a densely packed zone of loot with a thirty minute timer. Grab what you need to upgrade your base and your build, complete missions and get out of via the one extraction point without getting killed for all your stuff. Jump back in with better gear improving your chances of survival but ratcheting up the tension because dying means losing everything you have on, except a very small pocket for valuables.

I think currently the game has a good level of pvpve, And by that I mean I hardly see anyone and good riddance. I play like the little rat I am, minimum time in a zone can be about 8 minutes if you’re bee lining with just enough loot to fill your bag.

I picked Archer initially and in my second match I got into my first tussle and first player kill by making the enemy walk into my traps over and over again. Fights actually last a decent amount of time, and there’s a lot of eying each other up. I’ve found the few scraps I’ve been in quite fair, and adrenaline enducing.

In my next match I got downed like an idiot after getting hit three times by a mob right before the extraction point. Some random player found me and revived me and we extracted together which is perhaps the sweetest thing that has ever happened to me in a pvp game ever. I don't know why they decided to add the ability to revive your opponents but it's very cute.

Each class also seems to have their own movement tech. For example after getting cornered in a castle ruins while fiddling with some little bones as a priest I was able to glide away from all the repercussions, just like in real life.

There's a social hub and deathmatch arena if you want to scrub up on your fighting. To enter higher tier maps you're gated by the gear you have on. You can queue solo, Duos or mixed, if you like the idea of getting smashed by some sweaty wizards.

Meta progression is done by upgrading your base, and by base i mean this pile of menus that process your loot into other stuff. The city is another pile of menus where you can get yourself some gear or do crafting and upgrading.

There aren't too many maps at the moment but the devs have been busy since the game dropped into early access in February.

I didn't expect myself to actually enjoy this game very much but when given the chance it's the game i keep gravitating to when i get the chance. The loop and the low key tension at all times. So i guess that's a recommend!

My one big critique at the moment is that I wish i could muck around in menus while queueing. Queuing is prime inventory mucking around time. If you get cut off organizing your chests then the wait time may as well be zero. If you're locked into a wait screen then you have no choice but to sit there and do the Maths on your play time to wait time. That’s like giving people dedicated time to ponder everything wrong with you. And then like I cut off the video here and people will be like "lol that's great I see what you did there".
