Life is strange episode 5 spoilers.
This is not completely my theory, but I Judit Cambell showed me her thoughts on the ending, and it explained this feeling I had in my chest. So did this reddit user. And it brought me a lot of comfort. So I hope it brings everyone else some comfort too. And I’ll expand a bit on those thoughts.
When Chloe is first killed, Max doesn’t know it’s Chloe. She’s just a girl in the bathroom, and if Chloe had died Max would not know that until later. And Max would be filled with regret for the rest of her life for never reaching out to Chloe before she died.
The Butterfly comes to Max and gives Max the ability to rewind time not to save Chloe. But to give Max the chance that every person at some point in their life wishes they had with someone who had died. Just a little more time to make up for what they didn’t do.
I wish I had told them I loved them. I wish I had talked to them when I had the chance. I wish I spent more time with them being happy. I wish I had helped them.
Even though you don’t get to save everyone, you get to do something that everyone wishes they had. A second chance, or a little bit more time.
Max’s gift was not to save life. But just to have a little bit more. To give Chloe the happiness she never got when she was alive. The cost of those 5 days with Chloe was immense, and many people would pay it 1000 times over for the person they love.
The cost of spending a lifetime with Chloe would be even more. Some people say “I would give anything to have them back again” and the game really pushes you to the limit of that bargain. Would you really do anything to save the person you love?
Spend the time you have with the people you love. Stop watching this video, and stop thinking about Life is Strange. Call that friend you have lost touch with. Hug the person you love. Tell the people you care about how you feel. Because unlike Max, you’re not going to have a second chance.
