Recently found an AlphaSmart Dana PalmOS 4.1 electronic word processor at the local thrift store
I had no idea what it was at first, but I'm glad I picked it up. It's a really cool little piece of retro tech.
Let's take a look at what is it, what it does, and how to make it work together with a modern Windows 7, 8, or 10 PC. I also cover updating it to the final version of the system software, version 1.5.
Since this is primarily a gaming channel, of course, there's some escapism involved here too. I found a version of the Frobnitz Z-Code interpreter that had been ported to the Dana at some point. This program lets you play all kinds of interactive fiction games such as the Infocom classics like Zork and the Hitchhikers Guide.
